At particle we pride ourselves on producing photorealistic renderings. These can be highly valuable to our clients in several ways. Firstly our high end visuals are perfect for analysing a design giving you an image indistinguishable from a photograph without large investments in prototype models or tooling.
They’re perfect for use in internal presentations or investment meetings, to convince your audience and help them to take the leap of faith to investment. The rendering give a realism to a product that has not yet been manufactured.
Our visuals can give you a competitive head start as they can be used in product and advertising collateral before the product comes to market whether on a website or product packaging.

Particle designed and visualised a sub £200 compact digital camera for Leica, expanding the brand of previous Leica cameras into a more consumer and affordable market.

The design language echos the true form of original cameras, aiming to simplify a product that is usually overly complicated. The controls are limited to a simple sector wheel located on the top of the camera for easy access, and a main central control pad. The shutter button has become a more prominent feature, willing the user to press it. The flash has been hidden, only popping up when needed, as to give the camera a more streamlined visual language.

Particle examined the current Leica brand and design language, and with this new design, expanded and updated it to appeal to a new, younger consumer market.

SENSE is a new and brave concept in the medical arena. SENSE is a small handheld thermal camera that can be used to take an accurate temperature reading of a patient during and after surgery. The product also utilises a secondary camera that is situated in the surgical lights. This gives the anaesthetist the flexibility and freedom to use whichever technique is appropriate.
SENSE makes use of a simple and intuitive form to give the anaesthetist full freedom to concentrate on what is important, the patient. The simple circular head ensures the product is easy to understand and the lens (situated on back) is not covered by the hand of the user.

Working closely with the digital team at the BBC, particle created a visual language and information architecture for Element Radio, a product designed to explore the future of digital and internet radio.

With close attention to the BBC visual guide-lines, the interface aims to create a familiarity to iPlayer, whilst retaining an identity of itself.

The interface is designed to evolve and change to the different media required, whether that be music broadcast or live sports. When a song is played the interface changes to a visual language of that artist, whilst offering links to information.

The Element radio button can be pressed when the user wants more information. That information is ‘packaged up’ and sent to the users computer, where they can access later.

To present the interface to the BBC, a booklet was created, illustrating the visual language and the different screens used, along with user journeys, information architecture, and wireframes.

Created for Intel, view is an exploration of the future of mobile data storage. The range is intended to create new unique selling points for the market.

The first product in the range is a USB stick with a forecast of 2-3 years. The USB contains two ‘virtual’ halves. One for home files, one for work files. A tactile interaction for switching between these halves is maintained through turning the base cap.

The second product in the collection is a hard drive with a forecast of 4-5 years that allows the visualisation of capacity information on the move with or without a computer.

The final product in the range is a remote server with a forecast of 10-15 years. The server projects a screen onto any surface allowing for a much larger point of interaction whilst acting as a ‘window’ to all the users files stored on a server such as ‘Google cloud’.

Element Radio is an exploration into how radio can be made more relevant and interactive, creating a more two way communication. The radio comprises of a large remote touch screen, and a speaker dock station. The remote screen allows for glance-able information to be displayed, enhancing the radio experience. Element Radio is designed for use in the home.

The radio supports all three major platforms, FM, DAB and WiFi, and the cross category criteria, makes searching the platforms even easier.

The radio has been designed to introduce new audiences to a media that has arguably been left behind in this technological age. Generation C makes up the market, users who are digital natives and require all their media devices to be connected. With this in mind Element Radio links up through the wireless connection to communicate with the user’s computer, making it a more holistic and integrated product. Another characteristic of Generation C is their interaction with the media they use. Element Radio provides a platform for the radio producers to create any type of interactive media they choose, allowing users to be involved in their radio. Users are treated as active participants in the experience, rather than passive listeners.
